Students deliver toys to children’s hospital

Some kids can’t wait to open presents this time of year. Others can’t wait to give presents.

Nearly 20 students from Manitou Springs Elementary School made a special visit to Children’s Hospital Colorado at Memorial.

They arrived with piles of toys to give to sick kids in the hospital.

“We’re delivering toys to the children (of families) that have big medical bills to pay and might not have enough money to get Christmas presents,” fifth-grader Victoria Kiss said.

The students held a toy drive at school to make sure every child had something to open.

“We have about 40 or 50 toys,” said fourth-grade student Grace McCumber. “We wanted to make sure that the kids got presents.”

The toy drive quickly gained momentum at Manitou Springs Elementary.

“It was really fun to see everybody keep donating toys into our buckets at our school and people coming every morning with toy after toy,” fourth-grader Gillian Murphy said.

The act of kindness caught the attention of doctors and hospital staff.

“These are the kind of kids that think about others first,” said Dr. William Hardin, the hospital’s medical director. “You can see they put a lot of heart into this and the effort that they’ve made collecting the gifts and bringing them here.”
