Shots fired following argument on Huerfano County sheriff’s property

The Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office says a man fired several shots following an argument with Sheriff Bruce Newman.

No one was hurt.

Cpt. Vince Suarez said that around 4 p.m. Thursday, a man confronted Newman at his home in Walsenburg.

The men argued, apparently over a civil case involving the sheriff’s office and property owned by the man who confronted the sheriff.

Suarez said Newman chased the man off of his property and that the man fired several shots as the sheriff was walking back to his house.

Investigators haven’t determined whether the man was shooting at the sheriff or up into the air.

The man, whose name has not been released, is still on the loose.
