Fort Carson soldiers to receive Humanitarian Service Medals

More than 100 Fort Carson soldiers will be presented with Humanitarian Service Medals Monday.

The soldiers from the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division will receive the recognition for their work during the September 2013 floods in Colorado.

The Humanitarian Service Medal is a military service medal of the United States Armed Forces which was created on January 19 , 1977 by President Gerald Ford under Executive Order 11965.

The medal is awarded to any member of the United States military (including Reserve and National Guard members) who distinguish themselves by meritorious participation in specified military acts or operations of ahumanitariannature.
