UPDATE: Neighbors back home after explosives found at Colorado Springs apartment
People returned home Wednesday night after being evacuated because of explosives at an apartment complex in the 4400 block of E. Pikes Peak Ave.
Officers arrested Andy Marrero,33, for possession of an explosive device.
The investigation began at around 2 p.m. at the Point of View Apartments.
Police said explosions were heard coming from an apartment. They said several pipe bombs were found inside.
“It was scary. Anytime someone mentions bomb,” said Devona Brown.
“It’s crazy, absolutely crazy. You don’t think stuff like this actually happens until you see it,” said Tracy Martin.
The building was evacuated and the explosives unit was called in to disarm the bombs.
Evacuees who didn’t have anywhere to go were offered temporary shelter at the nearby St. Stephens Church.
