Administration seeking deal on Aurora VA hospital

Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Sloan Gibson is coming to Denver to seek an agreement on a stalled contract to build a new VA hospital in Aurora.

Contractor Kiewit-Turner has indicated it is open to some sort of deal after a federal board ruled the VA had breached its contract with the company and construction came to a halt.

Kiewit-Turner says it is abandoning the troubled project after the projected cost ballooned to as much as $1 billion.

The U.S. Civilian Board of Contract Appeals says the VA has not produced a design that could be built under the $600 million contract. The board also found that the VA doesn’t have sufficient funds to pay for construction of the entire project and has no plans to ask for money.
