Young boy wins holiday log search

A boy wrote a new chapter in a storied holiday tradition in Beulah.

Ian Imes, 11, lives in Beulah. He is also the one who won the 62nd annual Yule Log Search.

“It’s like finding a dog that was really meant for you,” he said.

He beat out more than 100 people who were also searching for the holiday log.

He rode the log in triumph with more than 20 people pulling the 8-foot log to the wooden house at Pueblo Mountain Park.

After the log was found, Imes helped cut it in half. One half was used as firewood and the other half is used for next year.

The yearly tradition was started by Gene and Nona Miller, a married couple who lived in Beulah. The couple brought a splinter of wood from the Palmer Lake Yule Log Search back in 1951 and the couple started the annual event the next year.

Todd Janes came from Fort Collins to participate in the search. He is a former Beulah resident. He said the event is more than just searching for a log.

“It’s always great to get back to Beulah. I got to see old friends and it’s always a great time to catch up with old acquaintances and it’s a great tradition to have here,” he said.

As for Imes, he said he has bragging rights in the town until next year.
