Immigrant’s family returns from DC lobbying trip

The family of an immigrant living in a Denver church to avoid deportation is returning from a lobbying trip to Washington DC.

Arturo Hernandez’s wife and two daughters flew to the capital on Tuesday to ask immigration officials to spare him. Hernandez would qualify for President Obama’s deportation relief if he didn’t have an already-active deportation case. That case stems from a four-year-old assault charge. Hernandez was found not guilty of the charge at trial. Hernandez has a steady job and one of his children is a U.S. citizen.

Religious leaders joined Hernandez’s family and those of other immigrants in similar situations for two days of meetings in Washington.

Hernandez’s supporters will hold a press conference Friday morning to reveal whether they made any progress.
