The flu season has an assisted living facility in Pueblo on high alert

The Pueblo City-County Health Department is seeing an outburst of the flu at assisted living facilities.

The department has reported 60 hospitalized cases of the flu; that’s up from three last year. Pueblo County also had one man die from the flu.

The Primrose Retirement Community is an assisted living facility that serves more than 90 residents.

Gina Drown is the executive director of the facility. She said the retirement home encourages the people who live and work there to get a flu shot. She said if a resident gets the flu, that person will be isolated and an employee will take care of them. If a worker gets the flu, that person is asked to stay home.

Drown said the retirement home goes above and beyond to make sure no one gets the flu.

“Every night our night staff disinfects the entire building all the railings, all the light fixtures all the knobs and anything that people would touch,” she said.

Drown said there have been six cases of flu at Primrose this season.
