FEMA funded flood repair projects to begin in Colo. Springs

Flood repair construction projects will begin this week in several Colorado Springs parks.

Contractors will begin work on Monday, Dec. 8, and continue for the next eight to 12 weeks. Repairs will include slope stabilization, roadway repair and drainage improvements to repair sites damaged during the September 2013 floods.

The Mount Cutler Trail will be closed during construction on weekdays, and reopen for hikers on weekends only. Hikers will still be able to access the Columbine Trail, Silver Cascade Falls Trail at Helen Hunt Falls, the Chamberlain Trail and Stratton Open Space.

There may be lane closures on North Cheyenne Caon Road in North Cheyenne Caon Park and Bear Creek Road in Bear Creek Caon Park as contractors repair various sections of the flood-damaged roadways.

Repair work will also take place along the entire 3.5 mile stretch of High Drive. Crews will be working on erosion repair, culvert replacement and overall drainage improvements. The Palmer Trail, Bear Creek Trail and Captain Jack’s Trail will remain open to the public during construction.

The projects are funded through the FEMA Public Assistance grant, and will cost about $515,000.
