Gardner votes to overturn Obama immigration order
Colorado’s next Senator wants to repeal President Obama’s recent executive action to allow more than 4 million people in the country illegally to remain here.
Republican Rep. Cory Gardner joined all but seven GOP House members Thursday in a symbolic vote against the president’s order. Gardner’s vote is significant because he repeatedly called for immigration reform during his successful campaign against Democratic Sen Mark Udall. Gardner reiterated that call in a statement Thursday. But Obama’s action was a response to the Republican-controlled House not acting on immigration. Critics say the vote shows Gardner is not being honest on the issue.
Another Colorado Republican congressman, Mike Coffman, voted to uphold the order. The state’s three Democratic representatives also voted to maintain Obama’s action. Its other two Republican congressmen voted against it.
