UPDATE: Husband faces charges in death of Colorado Springs woman

A Colorado Springs man is facing a first degree murder charge in the death of his wife.

Alicia Montoya, 37, was found dead in the 1200 block of Rushmore Drive Sunday night (11/30/14). Her husband, Robert Montoya, 45, is accused of killing her.

Police announced on Tuesday (12/2/14) that Alicia Montoya died of blunt force trauma and stabbing. Her death has officially been ruled a homicide.

“It seemed like it was pretty huge, how they were scoping the neighborhood with flashlights. It was like they were looking for something. They were pulling our friend, our neighbor Robert, out in handcuffs. He had no shirt on. His face was all black. You could see flames coming out the front door. They put him in the police car,” said neighbor Brenda Burkett.

On Sunday night Rushmore Drive was filled with fire trucks, police officers and concerned neighbors. Police responded after they received several calls about a fire and a disturbance.

“Two cops immediately came to the door and they kicked in the door and within a few seconds, a lady came out and her hair was on fire and there were also some flames inside the house I could see,” said Lance Riehl, another neighbor.

“They were the nicest couple, never heard them argue. I’m totally shocked,” said Burkett.
