Suspect in woman’s death found GPS tracking device

The former attorney for a man arrested in the death of a Grand Junction woman says the suspect found a tracking device officers placed on his car during their seven-year investigation.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Sunday 63-year-old Lester Ralph Jones arranged to return the device to investigators.

Jones was arrested Nov. 21 on murder and other charges in the 2007 death of Paige Birgfeld, who ran an escort business. He hasn’t entered a plea.

Colleen Scissors, Jones’ former attorney, says Jones and his brother found the global positioning system device. Court records indicate they probably discovered it in the autumn of 2008.

An arrest warrant affidavit said investigators obtained a court order to place the device on Jones’ car but that it didn’t produce any significant leads.
