Salvation Army and Fort Carson team up to help others

It’s the only meal some will get.

“This is the best thing I know of,” said veteran Clay Kungg.

Others are here to spend time with friends.

“I have a friend. We come here every year. It’s really wonderful that this is happening,” said diner Suzie Rushmore.

Whatever the reason, it’s why Fort Carson wanted to lend a hand – so they teamed up with the Salvation Army again for the ultimate Thanksgiving feast.

Soldiers who gave so much wanted to give more.

“It’s a great way to give back,” said Major General Paul Clark.

Current soldiers were giving back to some veterans still in need.

“I appreciate what they do, I really do,” Kungg said.

Kungg admits he probably won’t have another nice dinner this Thanksgiving.

“I’m going diving in dumpsters as soon as I get done here,” he said. “Gotta make a dollar somehow.”

But at least they have one meal, one chance to give thanks traditionally.

“It’s wonderful. Too bad it doesn’t happen all year round,” Kungg said.

“Those are the soldiers, the airmen, marines, the guardians and civilians that we lead on a daily basis. We’re just part of this community, so that’s why we’re here today,” said Master Sgt. David LaCamera.

The soldiers show that those who serve, don’t stop on a holiday.
