Dozens of Flights Diverted to Colo. Springs Airport
On one of the busiest travel days of the year, heavy fog at the Denver International Airport caused dozens of flights to be diverted to the Colorado Springs Airport on Sunday (11/30/14).
An airport spokesperson says approximately 34 flights were diverted to COS, the majority were United SkyWest flights.
Passengers remained on the planes, and did not have to get off.
The restrictions in Denver only lasted about an hour.
According to the airport, planes that are diverted will sit on the tarmac for approximately 2-3 hours.
It’s up to the pilot’s discretion, but after two hours, passengers can voluntarily de-plane.
After three hours, by law, passengers will have to de-plane, and are then brought into the concourse or baggage claim.
The airlines will then try to make new accommodations for those diverted passengers.
