Man accused of shooting Aurora officer charged
Prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old man accused of shooting an Aurora police officer during a traffic stop.
The Adams County District Attorney’s Office said Monday that Jahvell Daquan Forrest is facing several charges, the most serious of which include attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer, first-degree assault and first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft. He is being held on $1 million bail.
Forrest, who was arrested Nov. 18, is accused of shooting Officer Ryan Burns, an 11-year-veteran.
Burns was shot in the leg when he and another officer were walking to the suspect’s car during a traffic stop Nov. 14. Police say a man fired several shots from the driver’s side window, striking Burns. One of the officers fired back as the suspect fled.
