Coronado employee defends school resource officer
A Coronado High School employee is speaking out tonight, defending the school’s resource officer.
She says she supports him and wants his side of the story told if no one else will.
“Shock, shock. Confused as to where our security was and why our resource officer was there by himself,” she said.
This employee didn’t want to reveal her face or name because she and other teachers and staff have been told to say nothing about the fight.
“They just want it to go away like they want a lot of other secrets to go away,” she said.
She cited multiple claims of bullying to avoid liability and other cases of ignoring student complaints.
“There’s been a lot of change and it hasn’t gotten better,” she said.
In the case of Thursday’s fight, she said there’s another side of the story you can’t see from video which has been viewed nearly 500,000 times. But she said there’s another side of the story, you can’t see from this video.
“It didn’t seem right. It didn’t seem fair. Other teachers were standing in the crowd and nobody was doing anything,” she said.
According to her, four other security guards, hired by District 11, watched this fight.
“I think the school should not look good,” she said.
D11 never returned KRDO Newschannel 13’s request for a copy of surveillance video.
But spokeswoman Devra Ashby said, “I can’t speculate on that. It’s a hypothetical question. Additionally, I do not know for a fact that other security personnel were there.”
But that school employee watched the video again during an interview Friday afternoon and was shocked by the district’s lack of response.
“I don’t care if he works for the police station or not, you should still say we’re going to stand behind him,” she said.
A police investigation into the resource officer will still take several more days.
