Boys and Girls Club is getting new computers
Learning about technology has become a critical part of learning the skills that are important in the job market of the future.
But not everyone is able to gain access to computers.
The Boys and Girls Club in Colorado Springs offers a technology program, but the computers that the members use have become outdated.
Now a grant from Comcast worth more than $50,000 will help the center buy new computers.
The new computers that the grant will help the club buy will help close the so-called “technology gap.”
“They don’t necessarily have access to it when they get home. So, in many cases the work that they do here at the club with technology and the Internet is the most exposure they get,” according to James M. Sullivan, the president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region.
There will be a special Thanksgiving dinner at the club Tuesday to celebrate the grant, which is part of a national program that started this week at all Boys and Girls Clubs nationwide.
