Air Force athletics official arrested in sex sting

Authorities say a top U.S. Air Force Academy official has resigned after being arrested in a prostitution sting.

The Gazette reports that 43-year-old Dermot J. Coll was cited for soliciting sex for cash from an undercover police officer. He resigned Friday as head of a nonprofit organization controlled by the academy to raise money for athletics.

He wrote in his resignation letter that he was proud to serve there.

Academy officials declined to comment on Coll’s arrest. An Air Force spokesman at the Pentagon also would not discuss it.

It comes at a time when the academy has faced renewed scrutiny over past allegations about sexual misconduct and drug use by athletes.

Court records show Coll was twice convicted of drunken driving in 1996 and 2007.
