‘Exemplary, efficient’ describes storm response in Colorado Springs
While street crews in Colorado Springs said they handled this week’s winter storm well, drivers expressed mixed opinions Thursday about crews’ performance.
“I would like to recognize the men and women of the City Streets team who did an exemplary job the past few days,” said Dave Scalfri, the department’s operations manager. “The City Streets team was available around the clock, and efficiently managed the snow and ice control operations.”
Driver Jeff Hansen also spoke in support of street crews.
“Given the conditions — how cold it was and how much snow we actually got — I didn’t think the response was that bad,” he said.
But two other drivers disagreed.
“I would give them a one (on a scale of one to 10),” said Teresa Lopez.
Shaina Heimpel was more generous.
“Maybe a six or seven,” she said. “It’s not that great. They should have plowed more.”
However, Brigid Teel advised drivers to keep the proper perspective.
“I think people expect (streets) to be cleared in an hour,” she said. “I think they get a little impatient about it. Just drive slow, and take your time, and things should be OK.”
