Mayor Bach to ask City Council for help in storm water issue

Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach announced his plan Wednesday to tackle the city’s storm water issues.

Last week, voters turned down a ballot measure that would raise money to combat the city’s storm water issues.

Bach said he plans to ask the City Council to put a measure on April’s ballot, that would ask voters to approve new bonds to replace bonds that have been paid off.

The money generated from the bonds would provide $150 million over the next five years for neighborhood streets, storm water issues, public safety facilities and parks.

“Over time, I am just observing, we have not been taking care of our community’s infrastructure and we need to step forward,” said Bach.

Bach said the move will not increase taxes. It would raise the city’s debt from $50 million to $225 million.

Bach said the city currently does not have enough money to catch up on a backlog of capital improvement projects.
