Colorado Springs crews to work on streets overnight

A supervisors with the city of Colorado Springs Streets Division said crews plan to continue to work on the streets overnight Monday and into Tuesday morning.

The supervisor said the problem with Monday’s storm was that it hit during rush hour and crews were caught up in traffic as they tried to fix the roads.

Trucks laid down “ice-slicer,” de-icer and a sand and salt mix.

Drivers were sliding and spinning on highways and side roads.

“It’s more ice than snow and that’s really what’s not the best. I wouldn’t mind if it was snow, powder pack, but not the ice, that’s what’s making it worse. Those roads are not nice up there,” said driver Marsha Snipe.

Eastbound Austin Bluffs Parkway was shut down near University of Colorado Colorado Springs temporarily due to multiple accidents.

Barnes Road was also temporarily shut down near Oro Blanco Drive.
