Hundreds of people went to Pueblo to honor America’s heroes

Veterans Day is on Tuesday, but the Home of the Heroes got a head start to honor America’s veterans.

Hundreds of people came out for the 13th annual Veterans Day parade hosted by the Pueblo Chieftain.

This year the parade made former Army Sgt. Dan Aragon the parade marshal.

Aragon is a Vietnam War veteran. He said the memories of the war don’t go away.

“We fought, they bled; when they bled it was also red, blood was coming out. I lost a lot of my friends, quite a bit of my friends from my hometown in Avondale, to the Vietnam War,” he said.

Aragon said being the parade marshal was an honor.

“It is a hero’s welcome for today to come home and to finally be recognized a Vietnam veteran,” he said.

Even though veterans at the parade were receiving honor, other people wanted to give honor. Roseanna Torres-Herrera is one of those people. She and her family honored of all their family members who were in the military.

“It’s very humbling. It’s kind of emotional for us today. It is actually eight years to the day my dad passed away and he was just very proud to have served,” she said.

Veterans at the parade said it doesn’t matter if you ride a bike, make a float, or wave a flag, just as long as you remember the soldiers who gave their lives to defend the U.S.

There were more than 50 entrants in the parade.
