Graffiti painted on Colorado State Capitol

Ten people have been arrested after the Colorado State Capitol was spray-painted with graffiti, some of it referring to the Internet activist group Anonymous.

The vandalism occurred Wednesday during a demonstration at the Capitol in downtown Denver.

Police say most of the arrests were on charges of destruction of property. One person was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, but no details were released.

Graffiti was painted on exterior walls, windows and steps on the Capitol’s west side, a popular site for protests, rallies and news conferences.

Earlier in the day, Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper declared victory in his re-election campaign just inside the west doors.

The Capitol dome underwent a $17 million restoration this year but it didn’t appear to be affected by the graffiti.
