Pueblo City Councilwoman must resign or face recall

The Pueblo City Clerk’s Office says enough valid signatures have been collected to move forward with a recall of city councilwoman Amy Nawrocki.

City clerk Gina Dutcher says that if Nawrocki does not resign by November 5, council will consider a resolution on November 10 to set a special election for the recall question. If council approves the resolution, the election must happen within 45 days.

Anyone who wants to fill Nawrocki’s district 1 council seat must circulate a petition, which can be obtained at the city clerk’s office.

To get on the ballot, they must gather at least 50 signatures that must be certified. The petition must be turned in no later than 20 days before the election.

Qualified candidates for the seat must have lived in Pueblo for one year and district 1 for ten days.

The election would happen on January 27, 2015, according to the city. It would cost between $32,000 and $35,000.

Nawrocki is one of three city council members who were accused of violating Colorado’s sunshine laws by discuss public policy issues through email.

The other two council members, Chris Kaufman and Sand Daff, have both resigned over the controversy.
