Pre-election ballot boxes become busier in Colorado

The use of Colorado ballot boxes is expected to increase this weekend with time running out before Election Day.

Anyone who missed the recommended deadline for mailing ballots to arrive by Tuesday may drop off the ballots at selected locations. The locations are open 24 hours a day through Tuesday.

The ballot box location at Centennial Hall in downtown Colorado Springs requires more effort than the boxes that voters drive up to. The Centennial Hall location is in the rear of the building. During the day, voters first must find a place to park, then walk to the box.

However, the steady stream of voters there Friday didn’t seem to mind.

“I studied up and I’ve listened to a lot of different opinions, and I’ve weighed the thoughts in my own mind as to which way I wanted to vote,” said Linda Thompson, who cast her ballot Friday.

“The city did a real good job in sending out information in reference to the ballot issues,” said Tommie Jones, Jr., another voter. “I voted my conscience and I feel really good about the choices I made. Plus, at home, me and my wife discussed a lot of the things.”

Election managers in El Paso and Pueblo counties said there have been no problems with ballot returns and around 40 percent of the ballots sent out, have come back.
