Little girl with rare illness is treated like a princess on Halloween

She is in a wheelchair, but that doesn’t mean she can’t be treated like royalty on Halloween.

Three-year-old Makenzy Belcher wanted to live every little girl’s dream of becoming a princess.

“It’s awesome, it brings it so she can be as normal as possible,” Makenzy’s father Jason Belcher said.

But it isn’t all glitz and glamour, Makenzy has Glute-1. Her father said she is missing the gene that transports sugar into the brain, which causes epilepsy and developmental delay. Makenzy is in a wheelchair because of this rare illness.

“She can’t walk and she doesn’t say many words yet,” her father said.

Jordan Stratton played the role of Makenzy’s fairy godfather for Halloween when he transformed her wheelchair into something fit for a princess: a carriage

“It just felt like my hand was being guided and I was able to really work and do it freely.” Stratton said.

He said seeing Makenzy’s reaction when she saw the carriage for the first time was priceless.

“That was the cool part, that was my pay off right there was when she first seen it and she thanked me in sign language,” Stratton said.

Makenzy was also treated like royalty at her school.

“The students, they were like ‘oh my gosh look at it’ and there were just overwhelmed with joy seeing it,” Makenzy’s father said.

Even though Makenzy is a princess for Halloween, her parents treat her like one no matter what day it is.

“She’s our princess every day. Every day is an exciting day for us because she is going to do something new and something different,” Makenzy’s father said.

It took Stratton two days to build the carriage and it didn’t cost Makenzy’s family a single penny.
