Decision 2014: It’s too late to mail in your ballot

Election Day is just days away, and the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office says if you haven’t put your ballot in the mailbox yet, you should take it to a drop-box instead.

All ballots must be received by the Clerk’s Office by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 4 . At this late date, voters should not mail back their ballot as it may not be received before the deadline of 7:00 p.m. on November 4 . Ballots postmarked but not received by the Clerk’s Office before the deadline will not be counted.

In addition to ensuring your vote gets counted, the Clerk and Recorder’s Office says turning in your ballot now will help speed up the process of counting and announcing results on election day, and that once your ballot is received, your name will no longer appear on lists used by political campaigns to contact voters who have not yet voted.

“The ballot drop-off boxes and VSPCs (Voter Service and Polling Centers) are on average within 10 minutes of 96% of voters,” said Wayne Williams , Clerk and Recorder. “With the ease of voting their mail ballot at home, voters are encouraged to return their ballot early. Our Election staff worked hard to strategically place the facilities so voters don’t have far to travel.”

Voters who need to get a replacement ballot, update their registration, register to vote, or vote in person may do so at any of the Voter Service and Polling Centers.
