Woman to be sentenced for Windsor abduction hoax
A 21-year-old Fort Collins woman convicted of lying about being kidnapped and raped by a former co-worker faces up to nine years in prison when she’s sentenced Friday.
A jury in Greeley found Katherine Elizabeth Bennett guilty of attempting to influence a public servant and two counts of tampering with evidence in August.
Last November, she accused 25-year-old Dustin Toth of luring her to a Safeway parking lot in Windsor and then abducting, drugging and sexually assaulting her. However, investigators say her story changed several times and that she deleted a text message proving that the initial report was false.
Toth was arrested because of the allegations. During the trial, he testified about how he lost his job and nearly lost his military career as a result.
