Pueblo homicide numbers are up
The Steel City has matched a record high for homicides this year.
Pueblo police say there have been 12 so far, the same amount as in 1991.
Officers started keeping track of the crime in 1984.
The most recent homicide happened Thursday when 54-year-old Bernard Wallace died from stab wounds.
Officer Brandon Beauvais said most of the homicides were either drug or gang related. He also said it is hard to predict homicides, but that’s where they need citizens’ help.
“The public does play a big part in this by providing us information when things are ongoing. If they see an argument going on we can get up there soon enough to prevent an altercation, which can sometimes stop a homicide from occurring,” he said.
There were two homicides last year.
