Ft. Carson soldiers train for Africa deployment

Fort Carson troops are getting ready to deploy to Africa to help in the fight against the spread of Ebola.

About 160 engineers from the 615th engineer company, 52nd engineer battalion will help support Operation United Assistance.

“It’s a great opportunity,” corporal Antonio McKey said. “This is different from all other employments.”

On Thursday , the soldiers trained on wearing personal protective equipment. They went over the process of putting on masks, suits, boots and three layers of gloves. Then, they went over how to carefully take it all off.

“I have no worries as far a training.” McKey said. “We’ve been training, training non-stop. So I’m very confident.”
