Warrant issued for El Paso Co. burglary suspect
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a burglary suspect who deputies say broke into a home Monday morning, causing several schools to put up a secure perimeter.
Deputies issued a warrant for Austin Joseph Hood, 25, of Colorado Springs. Hood faces several charges including first-degree burglary.
The search for Hood on Monday caused nine schools in Security-Widefield District 3 to go on a secure perimeter. That meant no students or staff could leave. The schools went back to normal around 2 p.m. Monday.
It all began Monday morning. Deputies responded to the 7000 block of Harding Street on the report of a burglary involving a weapon. The homeowner got into a fight with the suspect, deputies said. The suspect then fled with items from the residence.
Hood has a lengthy criminal history in multiple states, including theft, assault and resisting arrest charges.
Hood is to be considered armed and dangerous. He is known to steal vehicles and flee from Law Enforcement.
