Fear of Ebola spreading, but no need expert say

Experts say the likelihood that Ebola will reach Colorado is extremely low, but people are still concerned.

Dr. Bill Letson, medical director of El Paso County Public Health said they hear about Ebola concerns about once a day.

“We do hear from first responders and a few other things of that nature in the community, that they have people who they’ve been presented with that think they have Ebola symptoms,” he said. “What we’ve seen so far, is people have been concerned that they might have it or that they might get it in ways that really are not possible to get it.”

And Letson said as the flu season gets in full swing, more people will likely worry.

“Ebola is like many viruses and it presents itself with symptoms that are a little bit unique in some ways, but many of the early symptoms are similar to what you see with flu,” he said. “You may have fever, you may have headache, achiness.”

He reminds the public that Ebola isn’t airborne, and unless someone comes into close contact with someone extremely ill from it, they should have nothing to worry about.

El Paso County Public Health said anyone with questions can call (303) 389-1687 or 1-877-462-2911.
