Construction company captures thief on camera, hopes they won’t come back

It’s not the first time Sunset Construction fell prey to vandals.

“There’s not a whole lot you can do. We’re just trying to get better at security. A lot of small businesses deal with that around here,” said Reuben Yoder, general manager of Sunset Construction.

But this case is unique.

At 4:30 a.m. Thursday, someone broke into the back fence.

Instead of stealing everything inside, the person carefully scouered the supplies inside the fence and selectively removed various boxes.

“It was somebody that is maybe in construction and he’s probably building something for himself or somebody else,” he said. “He was looking for a specific color of shingle.”

Sunset has experienced theft before. But even the owners were surprised to catch the vandal on camera, two days after they installed a new security system.

Yoder said this thief got away with about $500 worth of shingles and he’s worried he’ll come back.

“If he’s in the process of building something and he needs those supplies, I expect him to come back,” he said.

For now, he can only hope surveillance video will lead to some clues.
