Jefferson County inmate captured in Boulder

An inmate who escaped from the Jefferson County jail over a week ago has been captured in Boulder.

Thirty-two-year-old Travis Sandlin was taken back into custody in Boulder on Thursday. He tried to flee in a vehicle but crashed and was taken to the hospital.

Sandlin escaped through a fence in the recreation yard at the jail in Golden on Oct. 5, the first inmate to break out of the jail in its 27-year history. Since then, authorities say he stole at least three vehicles, some of them with cash and credit cards inside, but remained in the Denver area.
