County clerk and recorder reminds people in Pueblo they can send up to 10 ballots

If you are a voter in Pueblo County and you can’t drop off or mail your ballot in time, there is another option. You can have a friend or family member do it for you.

The Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder’s Office reminded people Thursday that a person is allowed to drop off up to 10 ballots.

“It is perfectly fine for me to bring in my aunt’s ballot if I want to or my grandparents or someone in my family. That it is perfectly legal to bring ballots in for people who need it,” County Clerk and Recorder Glibert Ortiz said.

Ortiz said he is clarifying the law because some groups said delivering more than just your own ballot is improper.

Even though Ortiz thinks it is a good idea, Pueblo voter Russel Griffith said one person who has one vote should send in their own ballot.

“It will cut out the middle man and it will assure that their one vote gets there and it makes sure that it’s from that person, and the person who is taking the vote makes sure there are no problems,” he said.

Ortiz said there ways to make sure your ballot makes it safely to the box.

“We also have a ballot tracer system if you wanted to sign up to trace and watch your ballot. You have the ability and it makes the voting more transparent,” he said.

Election Day is Nov. 4.

Ortiz said if a ballot is unsealed, a letter will be sent out to the person who has their name on the ballot asking to verify if it belongs to that person.
