Chickens show up to Springs city council meeting
Tuesday’s Colorado Springs city council meeting had some unexpected attendees – chickens.
People dressed in chicken suits showed up at the meeting. They are part of a group called “Colorado Springs Citizens for a Congressman Who Won’t Chicken Out.” They say Republican Congressman Doug Lamborn has “chickened” out of his promise to debate his Democratic contender in November’s election, Irv Halter. The group wants a debate between the candidates.
“Let us meet both candidates, let us be informed, let us make good decisions,” group member Doug Carter said. “But a debate is so fundamental to that.”
Carter said they don’t represent either candidate or party, and that they have invited both candidates to a debate Thursday, October 16 from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the Penrose Library.
Lamborn’s campaign responded to the chicken incident.
“Regrettably, this is further proof of the uncivil campaign Mr. Halter has been running and he should immediately disavow nonsensical, disrespectful, and empty name-calling stunts like this,” spokesman Jarred Rego said.
