Meth seized in Monte Vista, $508K value

More than $508,000 worth of drugs was seized Friday (10/10) in downtown Monte Vista in Rio Grande County.

Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. An investigation revealed 11.2 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a spare tire in the trunk of the vehicle. The street value is approximately $508,000.

Two Mexican nationals were arrested. Francisco Javier Romero-Sotelo and Jose Enrique Cubillas-Varela were charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Substance. They are being held in the Rio Grande County Jail.

The case is being referred to the Drug Enforcement Administration in Colorado Springs for review and filing with the United States Attorney’s Office in Denver.
