Pueblo police look for victims of attempted carjackings

Pueblo police are looking for several drivers who were possible victims of attempted carjackings Sunday morning.

The series of events started around 8:20 a.m. with a report of a stolen truck from the 1700 block of Erie Avenue. The owner tracked the truck with GPS and officers found it in the 1000 block of Fearnow Avenue. Police said they saw two men unloading tools from a utility box in the truck.

One of the men, identified by police as 33-year-old Michael Martinez, was taken into custody. The other man, who police identified as 24-year-old Anthony Vallejos, ran away onto Highway 47 where he tried to stop two different vehicles, police said.

The cars drove around Vallejos and he continued running east on the Highway 50 bypass. Police said he tried to stop a third vehicle and pulled at the door handle, but the driver refused to stop.

Vallejos then pulled a gun out of his waistband and threw it on the ground, police said. He was taken into custody moments later.

Martinez and Vallejos were both on parole, according to police. Both were transported to the Pueblo County Detention Center, and booked on charges including burglary and auto theft.

The Pueblo Police Department is asking the drivers of the vehicles Vallejos attempted to stop to please call (719) 553-2502 to assist in the ongoing investigation.
