Are Coloradans ready for another winter?
This is Colorado.
Home of America’s Mountain, even if it wasn’t visible from some areas today.
But the white stuff on cars still came across to some as a little early.
“It was definitely a surprise, but I’m ready for it to start dropping snow,” said Josh Gillmore.
“Seems a little early still,” said Joshua VanHaitsma.
Colorado is known for winter sports.
“I love seeing this cold weather, people getting their skis tuned, we’ll see one of the ski areas open in another week and a half,” said Rick Uhl, owner of The Ski Shop in Colorado Springs.
The sudden shift in weather lead many to feel raw by this new cold spell.
“It was interesting, quite a change of pace from the last few days,” said Aaron Healey.
Colorado averages 2 1/2 inches of snow during the month of October… The average temperature is about 49 degrees.
And while some were surprised by the snow, others have been waiting on this change for months.
“I’d love to have that average winter where we have a good snow pack, but some good snow afterwards too,” Uhl said.
With snow apps making predictions for an ideal ski season, a lot of people have already started gearing up, even if this weekend’s snow shut down the highway to Vail.
And for those who aren’t into the slopes, they have their options, too.
“Elk hunting – I leave on Friday to go elk hunting this week,” VanHaitsma said.
“I’m a decent fisherman. I just like taking hikes, going to the outdoors,” Gillmore said.
Even if it was a surprise, it doesn’t look like it will take long for Coloradans to use these flakes to our advantage.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says there is a slight risk for black ice tonight, since overnight lows will be close to freezing.
Caution is urged on Monday morning’s commute.
