New Pueblo City Council member wants a transparent council

There is a new face on Pueblo City Council and he said one of his first goals is to regain the public’s trust in council.

Dennis Flores was chosen to replace Chris Kaufman as a member of Pueblo City Council on Monday.

Kaufman resigned his position in August after allegations that he violated the Colorado Sunshine Law with council members Ami Nawrocki and President Sandy Daff by exchanging emails regarding public business with then-Pueblo County Transportation Director Greg Severance.

Flores is a member of the Colorado State University Board of Governors, a former president of the Pueblo City Schools’ Board of Education and the former president of the Latino Chamber of Commerce.

He said transparency with city council will lead to trust from the people.

“Your electorate and your community are paying the bill through their taxes. They deserve to know what’s going on so there is no question that this is a real important element of being in a public office,” he said.

As for Nawrocki and Daff, they told KRDO NewsChannel 13 they plan on finishing their terms despite a group calling for their resignation.
