Movie expected to be boon in western Colorado

State officials say western Colorado businesses will probably get a significant share of the $9.3 million in vendor spending that writer-director Quentin Tarantino’s next film is expected to bring to the state.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Sunday filming on “The Hateful Eight” is expected to begin within weeks on a ranch near Telluride in southwestern Colorado.

Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media Director Donald Zuckerman says says he expects Tarantino’s production company to rent some equipment and hire some crew members in Grand Junction, about 100 miles north of Telluride.

The production company has budgeted another $15.6 million for payroll. Zuckerman says at least half the crew must be Colorado residents for the production to qualify for up to $5 million in state incentives.
