Police: Sergeant followed rules in off-duty stop
Officials say a Pueblo police sergeant followed the rules when she stopped an erratic driver even though she was off-duty and out of her jurisdiction.
The driver, 26-year-old Christina Furber, fired three shots at Sgt. Shelly Taylor during the Sept. 8 traffic stop in Pueblo West. The Pueblo Chieftain reports Friday that officials determined Taylor acted appropriately in stopping Furber and returning fire.
Police Chief Luis Velez says Taylor made necessary decisions during a crisis.
Furber allegedly pulled a gun from her purse and fired at the sergeant during a struggle. Neither was wounded. Furber fled the scene, and her body was found the next morning in the trunk of a car in a home garage.
Authorities say she died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
