Marijuana home-growing ban mulled in Pueblo

Pueblo is considering banning the growing of marijuana at home.

Colorado’s marijuana law allows adults over 21 to grow up to six plants in an “enclosed, locked space.” But the law doesn’t say that space has to be at home, and Pueblo city planners are drafting an ordinance to require pot-growers to move plants out of homes and apartments and into a detached building.

The Chieftain reports that city officials say the home-growing ban is in response to complaints about people growing marijuana in backyards or in homes.

The ordinance has not been drafted, so it’s not clear whether it would apply to backyard garages.

Drafters say the ordinance would mean renters wouldn’t be able to grow their own marijuana without the landlord providing a detached building.
