Roundabout safety
A roundabout meant to protect a Pueblo West neighborhood opened Wednesday.
It is located at Platteville and Purcell boulevards.
Officials in Pueblo West, the county and C-DOT saw this intersection in Pueblo West as a safety hazard because it caused accidents that were sometimes fatal. They say the roundabout will combat that problem.
John Kristan lives in the neighborhood. He said the roundabout will do more than just make the area safe.
“It kind of welcomes people to Pueblo West. It’s almost like that sign on the highway that says Home of Heroes and it just welcomes people to the community. It’s an aesthetic thing where people can say hey I am proud of the community here,” he said.
The project cost more than $700,000 and Pueblo County contributed about $300,000.
