Police: Infant in critical condition the victim of child abuse
Pueblo police said an infant who is in critical condition at a Denver hospital is the victim of child abuse.
Police were called to Parkview Medical Center at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, after a five-month-old boy was admitted with serious head trauma.
After interviewing several people, police arrested the boy’s stepfather, Phillip Jiron, 40, on Tuesday night.
According to an arrest affidavit for Jiron, the infant’s mom said Jiron called the baby “ugly” and wanted his name removed from the birth certificate.
Jiron is facing a felony charge of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. His bond is set at $300,000. He has a criminal history that dates back to 1991. It includes charges of harassment, assault, property damage, domestic violence and child abuse.
The baby is at Denver Children’s Hospital. Police said Jiron abused his stepson to the point of causing a brain hemorrhage.
