Pueblo man shares his memories after losing his friend in a shooting
Pink paint from the crime scene is what’s left from a shooting that killed one man and put another in police custody. But for the best friend of the man who died what he has left is memories.
The shooting happened on Saturday (09/27/2014). Clinton Miller, 37, and a 17-year-old boy were fighting on Jackson Street. The teenager is accused of shooting and killing Miller.
Aaron Atencio had been friends with Miller since they were kids.
He remembers Miller as the loudest person in the room, but also a man someone could depend on for anything and to lift someone’s spirits when they were feeling down.
Atencio said he had many memories with Miller, but the best ones were from when they were kids.
“(We were always) at his mom and dad’s house. We would always be there on the front porch having a fun time riding bikes. We had a blast growing up,” he said.
When the shooting happened, that’s when the memories stopped.
“When it happened, my good memories started flashing through my head. My brain started pulling all the good memories with Clint,” Atencio said.
The 17-year-old is facing charges of second-degree assault and discharging a firearm, but that could change since the crime became a homicide investigation.
Miller was transported to a Denver hospital after the shooting, but died there.
Police are searching for 28-year-old Krista Casebolt.
They say she’s a person of interest in the case.
Police say she was in the area when the shooting happened and may have important information.
She also has a number of warrants.
Atencio has a message for the accused shooter.
“You took away a good person. Hopefully, you will learn a lesson from the wrongdoings you did,” he said.
As for Miller, Atencio said he misses him, he will see him again and there will be some good times.
This is the city’s 10th homicide this year.
