Low risk of Ebola breaking out in Colorado
The Ebola virus has been diagnosed in the United States.
A Dallas hospital and the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention confirm a man has the virus and is in isolation tonight.
It didn’t come as much of a surprise. The man recognized symptoms of Ebola, and admitted himself to Texas Presbyterian hospital last night.
The CDC says the adult patient developed symptoms days after returning to Texas from west Africa and was admitted into isolation on Sunday at Texas health Presbyterian hospital.
The Ebola outbreak has been centered in west Africa though there have been concerns about international air travel and other factors.
The CDC says symptoms might not appear until two to 21 days after one is infected which may contribute to its spread.
“It is certainly possible that people who had contact with this individual, a family member or other individual, could develop Ebola in the coming weeks. But there is no doubt in my mind that we will stop it here” said Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
160 Fort Carson soldiers are set to be deployed to Liberia to supervise the construction of Ebola treatment units.
The fort has not yet released a statement regarding this diagnosis.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 3,000 people in west Africa have died after being infected with Ebola.
