Solicitor accused of assaulting Boulder woman

A traveling door-to-door solicitor with a criminal record in other states is accused of groping and attacking a woman in her home in Boulder.

Police say they found 26-year-old Derick Robert Tappe Friday in Evans with other solicitors from Encore, Inc. Investigators say the traveling workers sell magazine subscriptions and seek donations.

A woman told police that a man soliciting for a charity pushed his way into her home and began groping her on Wednesday. Police say she went to get some money, thinking that would get him to leave, but he followed and attacked her. She was able to fight him off and get him to leave.

Investigators think there could be other victims.

Encore’s website says its workers must pass background checks. No one returned a message left at its service center.
