Man captured on camera stealing from photographers

Two photographers hope the public can help them find the cameras and memory cards a man stole from them Wednesday.

Joe and Kimberly Randall are avid photographers, and KRDO has often shared their pictures on Capturing Colorado and Wake Up Colorado. On Wednesday, the couple says a man broke into their Colorado Springs home, and took their three cameras, memory cards of photos they had recently taken and a laptop.

“We’ve never left our cameras at home, ever,” Kimberly Randall said. “I’ve turned around to pick them back up.”

This time, they left the cameras to charge. With lenses, they were worth about $3,700.

“(It was) about 10 years worth of savings to get the photo equipment that we had, and very sad to see it go,” Joe Randall said.

But the Randalls have multiple surveillance cameras around their home, and they captured the man who broke in. They hope it helps get their things back.

“He will never get the enjoyment we did from those cameras,” Joe Randall said. “That was happiness he took.”

The Randalls are offering a $500 reward for whomever can return their things. Insurance won’t help, because their deductible is higher than the camera’s value. But Joe Randall’s sister set up a fundraising web page, which had raised more than $600 Thursday night.
