Woman accused of neglecting Black Forest horses stripped of AQHA privileges

The American Quarter Horse Association says it has taken action against a woman who is accused of neglecting her horses.

Sherri Brunzell is facing misdemeanor animal cruelty charges after 14 dead horses were found in a barn in Black Forest. Ten surviving horses were also found. A search warrant says two of those horses were thin, but not emaciated, and that five of the horses had excessively long hooves.

According to the search warrant, Brunzell told investigators that the dead horses died of Colic and that the horses were covered with lye and tarps because she did not have the money to have the carcasses removed.

The American Quarter Horse Association says it believes Brunzell has violated several of its rules and that she has been stripped of all privileges, including those associated with the registration of any horse and participation in any AQHA event.

Brunzell has also been denied access to any AQHA-approved shows.
